You’ve probably heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, it turns out that’s true—especially if you’re trying to lose weight. Women sometimes skimp on breakfast, or skip it all together, thinking they can save calories by not eating the first meal of the day and instead indulge in a mid-morning monster muffin. Calories are calories, right?
Well . . . not exactly. What kind of food you eat and when, is as important to dropping weight and keeping it off as how many calories you consume each day.
Several recent weight-loss studies show that eating the right food early in the day can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight. A study at the Louisiana State University found that people who eat eggs at breakfast, or other sources of quality protein like bacon, lost more weight and kept it off longer than participants who ate a bagel for breakfast. The protein eaters lost a whopping 61% more body mass than the participants who broke their fast with a bagel.
Start your day with a healthy breakfast that includes lean protein and you’ll feel fuller, longer and eat fewer calories throughout the day.
