Blueberry Lemony Madness Smoothie

I’ve been making smoothies for years but I hit the taste goldmine recently when my friend Caroline showed me her secret ingredient for smoothies. She adds 1/4 of a lemon right into the blender (skin and all). I’m all for lemon but I have only ever squeezed the juice out of the lemon. This bold move on her part to actually add the whole lemon piece, skin and all was a revelation for me. Not only do you get all the nutrients locked in the pith and the skin but the end result was FABULOUS! Lemony goodness that tastes so refreshing and has a wonderful cleansing effect on the body.

Note: If possible please use organic lemons when you do this because you will be blending the skin into the drink and that is usually where the pesticides hang out. 

Blueberry Lemony Madness Smoothie

Handful of green leafy veggies (kale, spinach, chard etc)

2 Tablespoons of Vega One powder – French Vanilla (the stevia sweetness and vanilla taste are wonderful – plus there are a lot of great nutrients in the powder)

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1/4 organic lemon (the whole thing – skin and all – I know – crazy madness!)

1 Tablespoon Chia seeds

2 Tablespoons Hemp seeds

1 teaspoon maca powder

2 cups water

Blend all of this up and enjoy!
