LUNA Sport: Cycling Gear Just for Women

You’ve probably heard of of LUNA Bars—those yummy nutritional energy snacks made especially for women—but did you know that LUNA also makes cycling clothes? Inspired—and modelled by—the LUNA Chix Pro Cycling Team, LUNA Sport has been designing cycling essentials for women since 2006.

LUNA Sport’s goal is to “develop, test and refine the most authentic women’s cycling clothing available.” This month we tested their gloves and one of their cycling jerseys. And guess what? They live up to their high standards.

The Marla-Di-Da Cycling Jersey

The Marla-Di-Da, a relaxed fitting jersey with a V-neck and cropped sleeves, is just the ticket for slower, scenic rides or small-town tours. The jersey’s soft fabric and looser fit make it comfortable to cycle in and easy to wear when you’re off the bike sightseeing. There are a few extra touches here, too. The front darts and seams and the slightly curved design of back pockets add a feminine flair.

Where possible, LUNA Sport uses recycled and sustainable, natural-fiber fabrics and trims. The Marla-Di-Da is made of 92% recycled polyester, 8% spandex and has an Anti-microbial treatment for odour control.

LUNA Sport Gloves

The first thing you’ll notice about these gloves—besides the pretty moon-logo design—is the absence of those clunky Velcro wrist bands that snag on every piece of fabric they come in contact with, including your jersey. Whoever said you needed Velcro in cycling gloves?

LUNA Sport gloves are sturdily built and functional, but feminine. Think smart, thoughtful design and you’ll get the picture. From the pull-on tabs and the pull-off loops to the generous soft wiping surface, this is a glove made for a woman cyclist.

How did LUNA Sport gloves perform on the bike? Although only lightly padded, they provide a more comfortable ride than any of the heavily gel-padded gloves I’ve used. The stretch-fit and the mesh back provide excellent ventilation, keeping your hands cool and comfortable on any ride.
